Ph.D. Student Social hosted by the MHI Scholars

To kick start the new year, the Ming Hsieh Institute sponsored its first ever Electrical Engineering Ph.D. students-only social hosted by the MHI Ph.D. Scholars. The student social was a casual gathering to meet and socialize with fellow students in the department. Over 100 Ph.D. students participated and chatted with one another while waiting to order their free meal from the famous Armando’s Food Truck.

The event was part of a new effort for a more united and social Electrical Engineering department. While this is certainly a challenge, given the large size of the EE department (over 300 Ph.D. students and 60 full time faculty), the student social was a great start toward this ultimate goal.

MHI hopes to continue to sponsor other social and networking events throughout the semester. The EE Research Festival, held on campus on Friday, April 20th, is another great opportunity for students to meet fellow EE Ph.D. students, postdocs, and faculty!
