USC Speech MRI Summit
Organizers: Krishna Nayak (PI), Co-PIs: Shrikanth Narayanan, Sungbok Lee, Justin Haldar, Richard Leahy
Sponsored: Spring 2014
A one to one and a half day meeting in January 2014 will gather international experts in the imaging of speech production with MRI, will showcase USC EE research in this area, and will provide a forum for sharing best practices.
Real-time MRI is being increasingly used for studies of speech and vocal production. This application has seen major growth in the past five years. USC has and continues to be one of the 3 or 4 leading institutions worldwide in this area, in terms of technology development, translation, publications, and grant funding. We aim to host the first ever gathering focused on this topic.
Our aims are to:
1. bring together the leading groups worldwide
2. review the enabling technology, basic science applications, and clinical applications
3. share best practices
4. produce 1 or 2 position papers in major journals
In doing so, we will be positioning ourselves as leaders in this area. We will seek endorsement from professional societies including the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine, the Acoustical Society of America, and the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society.
